Then came her babies, optimistically she pureed and mashed delicious morsels intended for health and wellbeing. For months the only meal eaten without combat was stewed apples and custard. She had officially entered the-what-will-we-have-to eat-now-phase. Then the-finally-they-eat-something-other-than-custard-and-apple stage. Closely followed by the-seriously-do-they-need-to-eat-again stage? In those days her response was often, ‘Something with chicken.’ The years ticked by, and the cycle again changed to her cooking smaller meals to suit the number of diners, the calories required to maintain a healthy BMI, and dietary considerations—low salt this, gluten/ dairy/ lactose free that. She rediscovered a need to make delicious morsels for health and wellbeing. Time poor and out of practice she discovered the joy of a well-placed squeeze of lemon or lime. Excellent on risotto or buttery sauteed mushrooms, in mayonnaise, and handy in lieu of salt on pork crackling.
